/ˈhīˌlīdər/
Design structures are pervasive. Each design carries with it innate or imposed limits, many of which exist without any overt acknowledgement by the standard user. Language in particular has always been a struggle for me. It is too organized and too sequential for my nonlinear thought process. Nevertheless, I cling to language and its rules both for the boundaries that it sets and the connections that it affords.
In the highlighter works I use the familiar florescent mark making tool intended for creating indicators in a selected text to illuminate the structural format of the text itself. There is a cadence to a text that resides in the spacing of the margins. It is a rhythm that is fluid yet bound indefinitely by the images and illusions that words carry. The elimination of words through this form of highlighted redaction places emphasis on the system of language rather than language itself.
